11.2.3 Simulation

This section explains the settings to run the conjugate heat transfer for power inverter simulation

Creating Monitoring Points

The steps are as follows:

  1. Click Create a Monitoring Point icon four times to create Point 01Point 02, Point 03 and Point 04 in the Geometric Entities Panel.
  2. Rename the created points Point 01 as Air_point, Point 02 as Chip_point, Point 03 as Transformer_point and Point 04 as Transistor3_point.
  3. Enter the Position as shown in Table 11.2 in the Geometry Tab of Properties Panel for all the points (see, Figure 11.41).
Point Position (m)
Air_point -0.01, -0.01, 0.07
Chip_point 0.00364, -0.0137, 0.05
Transformer_point 0.004, -0.0002, 0.081
Transistor3_point -0.0157, -0.0011, 0.077

Note: Monitoring points need to be created before running the simulation for recording data (see, Figure 11.42.). The position of a Points may also be dragged to a new location using the Select option Toolbar and the Left Mouse Button.

Simulation Settings
  1. Select Simulation Panel and enable Steady.
  2. Enter Number of Iterations as 500 and Result Saving Frequency as 50 (see, Figure 11.43).
  3. Select Start from Initial Values to start from specified initial values.
  4. After you save the project, click Start to run the simulation.
  5. The result files are saved as .sres in the working folder (Example : "projectname_1000.sres").
Note: The Result Saving Frequency option in the Simulation Panel is set to a small value (say 5 or 10) before running the simulation to obtain better animations.

Note: The default Converge Criterion is 0.001 for Steady Simulation. When the residuals for all the variables drop by three orders or the maximum Number of Iterations is reached, the calculation stops.
