Problem Overview

This tutorial explains the procedure to simulate the seakeeping of a marine vessel with a displacement hull. A general workflow is established for analyzing the flow of fluid around the hull and the generation of waves due to the hull-fluid interaction.

A simulation is to be performed to study the performance of marine vessel with a displacement hull and a bulbous bow. The propulsion of the vessel is specified in terms of prescribed conditions, without any propeller model. The moving vessel achieves a target velocity of 2.196 m/s in the forward direction with a ramp up time of 2 s. The setup for the marine simulation, the physical properties of the vessel and the fluid properties is shown in Figure 8.34.
