Ball Operating Parameters

The operating parameters pertaining to the 1D ball valve compartment template involve specifying these inputs in Advanced Mode settings for solving the analytical equation of the valve. They can be accessed in advanced mode as follows:

Model Panel > Ball Valve

Properties Panel > Model Tab > [Desired Property]

The following parameters are specified to give required inputs to solve the analytical equation of the Ball Valve.

Additional Force on Valve: This option allows to specify user defined forces for the valve with the desired value or expression. The unit is N.
Ball Diameter: This parameter allows to specify desired value for the ball diameter. The unit is m.
: This parameter allows introduction of the effect of jetting on the valve dynamics.
Damping Coefficient: This parameter "D" generates a force opposite to the velocity according to the equation . The unit is N-s/m.
Discharge Coefficient: This parameter allows introduction a loss coefficient at the opening of the valve.
Inlet Diameter: This parameter allows the specification of the inlet diameter. The unit is m.
Maximum Open Distance: This parameter limits the maximum translation of the valve and the unit is m. This can be thought of as a physical limitation or stop.
Spring Constant: This parameter "" is a variable in the spring force term which is given by the equation .
where is the spring preload force and the reference is the closed position. The unit is N/m.

Note: The spring force associated with the spring constant opposes an increase in the opening.

Spring Preload Force: This parameter , is a variable in the spring force term. Preload force is the force of the spring in the closed position. The spring force associated with the Spring Preload Force opposes an increase in the valve’s opening.
Valve Mass: This parameter “”, is the mass of the ball valve and has a unit of kg.
User Specified Area: This enables to specify the opening area. Specify the desired value of area.
