6.13.2 Compartment Valve Model

A Compartments module option used to connect two boundaries with a dynamic 1-D analytical model of a Ball Valve or a Spool Valve. The 1-D valve model is activated under the Compartments module as follows:

Model Panel > Select Modules > Physical Model Selection dialog box (see, Figure 6.774).

After adding Ball Valve or Spool Valve from Available Modules list, view the available parameters as follows:

Model Tab > Ball Valve/Spool Valve > Properties PanelModel Tab

Note: The Ball Valve or Spool Valve model under the Compartments module is an analytical 1-D model. For full three dimensional simulations of valves, Simerics-MP+ offer the Valve modules. Any number of Compartment module can be added, but they need to be given different module names.

These operating parameters have two modes to specify the parameters/features. These two modes are available in the Setup Options

Setup Options

This provides the option to specify the operating parameters in either:

  • Normal Mode - Limits the options visible for a selected Compartments module with the intent of simplifying the set-up.
  • Advanced Mode - Reveals all options available for a selected Compartments module.

The Advanced Mode applies to the display of options, and can be switched back to Normal Mode without resetting any settings.

ODE Integrator

This offers three options for the ordinary differential equation (ODE) solver. The three integrator options for the ODE solver are:

  • Stiff: A proprietary Simerics-MP+ explicit solver for ODE’s. It is the default for this module.
  • Euler: A first-order numerical procedure for solving ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with a given initial value.
  • Runge Kutta: An explicit method for numerical integration of ordinary differential equations.

Once the above parameters are specified, further parameters are described under:
