11.14 Sand Erosion

Erosion is a phenomenon that causes loss of material due to repeated impact of solid particles on a surface. Erosion is a major concern in many industries, such as chemical, oil and gas, hydraulic transportation as it causes damage in pipes, valves and other flow passages. It is therefore important to study the erosion rate and find areas in the flow passages, which are susceptible to erosion. The erosion phenomena can be simulated using Simerics-MP. This tutorial demonstrates simulation of sand erosion in a pipe using the Particle module.

This tutorial includes:

  1. Problem overview: A description and schematic of the problem, explaining the conditions involved in the modelling of particle erosion.
  2. Setting up the model: Building the simulation domain, specifying the physics and conditions.
  3. Performing simulations: Steps to run the simulation.
  4. Post processing: Analysis of the simulation results.
