3.3 Properties Panel

The Properties Panel provides access to the global properties/settings depending on the entity selection in the Geometric Entities Panel or the Mesh Panel.

The following three sub tabs are available under the Properties Panel:

  • Model Tab
  • Geometry Tab
  • View Tab

3.3.1 Model Tab

  • This controls the Model related parameters associated with a geometric entity or module.
  • For example, If inlet (denoting the inlet to the domain) is selected, under Boundaries in the Geometric Entities Panel, the value for the Specified Velocity is given in the Model Tab of the Properties Panel.

3.3.2 Geometry Tab

  • This controls the parameters relating to the orientation or location of a geometric entity.
  • For example, if Section01 is selected in Geometric Entities Panel, user can adjust its Position (X, Y, Z or Arbitrary)

3.3.3 View Tab

This controls the viewing window image. It allows the user to enable or disable the Surface, Global Parameters, Grid, Outline, Vector, Surface Side, Transparency etc. For example, refer to Post Processing-Display.

Surface

This enables the display of the Primary Variables, Physical Properties, or Derived Variables or a solid color on selected geometric entities, specifically Boundaries, Derived Surfaces, Interfaces, CAD Surfaces, and/or Volumes.

Display Variable

This allows to select Primary Variables, Physical Properties, or Derived Variables for display. For more information on Variable, refer the Output Variable of each modules.

  • View Mode:Offers node based or cell-based display.
  • Legend: Select a legend to associate with the Display Variable. Three levels of legends can be displayed by selecting Legend 1, Legend 2, and Legend 3.
  • Color Scheme: Offers color scheme options as shown in Figure 3.19.
  • Number of Colors: Specifies the number of legend colors.
  • Show Values: If Yes is set to Show Values, it displays all values in the legend.
  • Minimum & Maximum: Adjust the color bar for contours.
  • Refresh Min/Max: For updating and setting the color map range.

Transparency

This controls the degree of transparency or opaqueness of a surface. Following display options are available in Transparency. For reference, see Figure 12.45 - Figure 12.48.

  • Opaque: Opaque
  • Translucent: Halfway between transparent and opaque.
  • Transparent: Transparent.
  • User Input: Allows to select opaque value (0-1).
  • Opaque Value (0-1): 1 is fully opaque.

Outline

This enables the display of the outline on selected geometric entities, specifically Boundaries, Derived Surfaces, Interfaces, CAD Surfaces, Points and/or Volumes.

 

Note: If no surface is displayed, a red outline is displayed, whether or not outline has been activated.

Grid

This enables the display of the Grid (Mesh) on selected geometric entities, specifically Boundaries, Derived Surfaces, Interfaces, CAD Surfaces, and/or Volumes.

Vector

This enables the display of vectors on selected geometric entities, specifically Boundaries, Derived Surfaces, Interfaces, CAD Surfaces, Points and/or Volumes. It offers following options for Vector.

  • Color By Function: Select a Primary Variable, Physical Property, or Derived Variables for display on the vectors.
  • Color: Select a legend to associate with the Display Variable.
  • Size: Controls the size of the vectors (Also controlled via the slider bar).
  • Uniform Head: Toggles between uniform head size and head size dependent on the vector magnitude.
  • Head Size: Vector head size can be changed manually depending on user input.
  • Projection: Projects the vectors into the selected surface.

Note: Surface, Outline, Grid, and Vector display for a selected geometric entity may also be activated using the check box in front of the respective label in the Results Panel.

 

Section Option

If Section is activated, then following features are available for Section Option:

  • No Clipping
  • Keep Positive Side
  • Keep Negative Side

Surface Side

This provides the option to display as follows:

  • Display Both Sides
  • Display Outside Only
  • Display Inside Only

Global Parameters

  • Text Label: Input text to display with geometry for example time={time}s, it will display the current calculation time. For reference, see Figure 12.42.
  • Axes: Turns axes on and off.
  • Background Color: Default background color is white, user can choose different color through this operation.
  • Mirror: It offers to mirror the displayed entity in different plane.
  • Lighting: Controls the lighting effect.
  • Perspective View: If set yes, it zooms out the geometry.
  • Image Width: Controls width output.
  • Image Height:Controls height output.
  • Zooming Factor:Manual input factor to zoom
  • Pane (H):Panning parameters (Horizontal).
  • Pane (V): Panning parameters (Horizontal).
  • Axis Z Rotation Angle: Rotation parameters for Z axis.
  • Axis X’ Rotation Angle: Rotation parameters for X axis.
  • Axis Z” Rotation Angle: Rotational angle from known reference angle.
    •   Note: Rotation angle Z-X’-Z”: Any target orientation can be reached, starting from a known reference orientation, using a specific sequence of intrinsic rotations, whose magnitudes are the Euler angles of the target orientation. Using the sequence such as z-x′-z″.
  • Logo: Turns the logo on and off.
